The board of trustees “Deutscher Kamerapreis Köln e.V.“ bestows a Special Award for the visual overall performance of the staging of Günter Krämer’s Mozart opera “MITRIDATE, RE DI PONTO“. The opus based on the eponymous drama of Jean Racine, was presented during the Salzburg Festival in the Mozart-Year 2006. The jury appreciated especially the cooperation of direction, stage design, costume design and video direction.

The opus was produced by the TV SKYLINE OB Unit “Ü5HD“ with seven cameras in HD and SD simultaneously under “live-conditions“ and broadcasted on “3SAT“ with about one hour delay. The whole production was recorded in 5.1 surround sound, broadcasted on several TV stations worldwide within the last year and is also available on DVD.

Günter Krämer restaged the opera on the leading part of the stage, whose revolvable back planes revealed the view on the castle of king Mitridates VI (132-63 BC) and the life of its residents. Speechless figures in red Mozart costumes and a oversized mirror face created aberrations of light and duplications that reflected the musical and scenic events on stage.

Peter Schönhofer directed the opera; the leading camera operators were Günther Euringer and Joe Melina. Jürgen Bäckmann was responsible for the stage design and Falk Bauer for the costumes.
